Scott was a huge help in the middle of night in a snow storm. He got us hooked up with a room and out of the snow in no time I would recommend this place to anyone coming thru this way. The lodge was big with plenty of rustic vibes and great friendly atmosphere. Scott's beard is fantastic make sure to compliment it wonderful luster
Zero stars. The owner and hippie manager love to smoke marijuana, which is illegal on the property, And harass customers
For those of you folks don't know it marijuana is legal in the state of Colorado but not at a businesses like this one
The customers and the management openly are smoking marijuana on the property it's up to you obviously but I don't believe that this is a good environment for small children to be around.
Yes we did pay a $50 fee and we were told we could not run our generator because it was too loud.
What a joke.
This idiot that owns this place allows people to run their RMK snowmobiles with the super loud exhaust on them at any time of the day.
In other words if you put your 4-year-old to sleep at 4:00 in the morning don't plan on him getting a lot of sleep because they are going to be running the snowmobiles all night long with the permission of the owner.
Furthermore even though Scott told us that we could run a generator, after they took our money they said we could not run the generator.
So they took our money they screwed us but then they let these snowmobiles run around all night long.
Furthermore the rooms are tiny, paper thin walls and freezing cold
The cabins are far from the parking area.
Just think if you're in your cabin and it's 2:00 in the morning and you have to go to your car to get something you're going to walk a long way in the snow.
There are no paved sidewalks and they do not allow anything so you're going to be walking in hip deep snow.
If you want anything from where the makeshift restaurant area is it doesn't even open until 11:00.
So if your kids are hungry at 8:00 or 9:00 in the morning don't plan on getting anything from them.
Please understand that the owner of this property encourages people to drive their snowmobiles at any time of the day and he's actually proud of it
If I have my three and five year old son there and at 3: 00 or 4am or 5:00 a.m. some idiot is driving by with his RMK and his huge exhaust it's going to piss me off.
Furthermore many different wild animals here.
Bears
My sons husky had a tussle with a wild my cat. We scared it off.
If you don't believe anything of what I have to say you decide to go up here anyway please watch your children 24/7 and animals
The road driving up here is a 10 percent grade all the way. It never levels out.
I was pulling my 24 ft trailer with my F-150 and I'll tell you it was a challenge.
A mile and a half from this dump is a very nice modern rest area with heated bathrooms and a sink in there and it's free to stay there and it's right by the lake so a lot of people actually set their trailers there even in the winter time
The best place to go if you want a snowmobile is actually a place called Jones Pass.
It's really close to the town of Wint Park.
It's very easy to get to you could snowmobile all day long and go stay in a very nice hotel in Winter Park and or go skiing and play with the kids in the tubing areas.
Jones Pass is very close to Denver as well
Grand Mesa is a long long hard drive.
Road is only two lanes and is very dangerous and switchback.
Thumbs down for Grand Mesa Lodge.
Thumbs up for Winter Park
The surroundings are breathtaking. I was disappointed with the cabins, they were very dirty, there was food on the wall where the trash can was, my dog found an old piece of sausage somewhere, that grossed me out.
We cleaned the place before we left and the rag we used on the wood floor part was black, you could tell it hadn't been cleaned in a while, there is a metal carpet strip that they tried to keep down with duct tape instead of screwing it down and my husband cut his foot on it.
The grounds could use a cleaning up, too.
I think hiring more staff for the cleaning is much needed, the one guy they have doing it all is just surface cleaning. and maybe put a little money into the cabins wouldn't hurt, they have a tote for the bedding for the futon that was all busted up, the rug by the door is so dirty that when you pick it up the dirt falls out .
All in all, it was good to get away from everything for a couple of days.
The young lady that help us change lodging was absolutely amazing! Fully enjoyed our stay, one thing that needs improvement is Cabin 15 and the step into the cabin is deadly, fix the planks on the porch.
This place has so much unrealized potential. The location is great, the staff is helpful and friendly, but grounds maintenance and housekeeping are sorely lacking. The cabins are close together, so smoke from neighboring campfires and noise from partying neighbors will be an issue if what you really want is a peaceful, relaxing atmosphere. For the price I expected much more. We won't be staying there again.
The views and environment here are amazing. We had a family reunion last month and rented out the entire place. The lodge itself is beautiful and the staff are very helpful. Unfortunately, the cabins are in pretty terrible condition. Two of our cabins had the gas on the stove left on and we had to air it out. They are in really rough condition for how much the prices are per night. We ate breakfast at the lodge once and I would give that a 3/5 for the food options (understandable given the location) and food quality.
We really enjoyed our stay. The restaurant was great, too, and we had excellent service. The staff member was knowledgeable and friendly.
It was 2 stars because the rooms were very worn down the sheets weren't washed and they had yellow stains on them and there was TONS of gaps for mosquitoes to get in and the first night there were so many mosquitoes that we had to light a candle just to lure them back outside. The service is good but we didn't really use or need it.The location is great at 10000 feet and the view is stunning! Would reccomend only if you had no other options on where to stay.
